The Serbian citizen activist group “Let´s Defend Rivers of Stara Planina” if fighting for the preservation of the rivers and waterfalls of Stara Planina. The Government of the Republic plans to build hundreds of small hydroelectric power stations in the declared Nature Park and beyond in Serbia and channel picturesque mountain rivers into pipes. The project would permanently damage the Nature Park for the sake of gaining less than 1% of the electricity needed by Serbia, and the money from the EE produced in this way would end up in the pockets of a small number of private individuals.
