Mietshäuser Syndikat

Mietshäuser Syndikat is a federation of housing associations which has been operating since 1987 in Austria and Germany. Its name means “trade union of rental apartment buildings”. In the last 30 years, Mietshäuser Syndikat has removed more than 130 rental flats from the real estate market. This has enabled more than 2,900 ordinary people to have permanent access to affordable collective housing. At the end of 2018, 136 projects were associated with the Mietshäuser Syndikat and 17 more were interested in joining. Its mission is to help develop a federation of residential housing units managed by peers and residents. These own the buildings, but at the same time they pay rent to themselves and to the federation to ensure the smooth running of the whole system.
